Additional MTV Unplugged Information

On March 6th, Julieta Venegas recorded her MTV Unplugged at the Churubusco Studies in Mexico City, where she presented new songs besides interpreting some of her greatest hits in an intimate atmosphere to a live audience.

This production counts on important and interesting collaborations like two time Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla, who accompanied her with the banjo and sang the chorus of the song "Algun Dia (Someday)". Brazilian singer, Marisa Monte featured in song "Illusion", a new and beautiful song that combines the Spanish and Portuguese language.

Also Mala Rodriguez joined Julieta and included a strong hip hop movement to the song "Eres Para Mi (You are for Me)", whereas the vocalist of Porter, Juan Carlos had a unique participation in "Algun Dia (Someday)".

In addition, the very talented Natalia Lafourcade comprised of the orchestra and played several instruments during the night, whereas the talented musician and composer, Jacques Morelenbaum accompanied Julieta on the cello in "De mis Pasos (From my foot steps)".

What Customers Say About MTV Unplugged:

El presente is about loving and being in the present moment, even though the world is on the brink of destruction. While never abandoning her songwriting and melodies. Algun Dia is about the promise of self-improvement and realization. Still, I can't wait for what she's doing next. I sing along to her songs everyday and her songs have the ability to pacify babies. julieta, god bless you. i've been listening to this album for the past year and it hasn't gotten old yet (or ever). BUT the hallmark of her talent is the ability to create unique yet catchy melodies coupled by meaningful yet simple lyrics.

The musical guests are super well selected. Her new songs show a more introspective Julieta, but also perhaps a more political one. I've never enjoyed a julieta album as much as this one, but perhaps it's because i'm getting a little bit of everything here. And mira la vida is an ode to feminine power and a tribute to pregnant women. Julieta's sound continues treading forward into new ground: norteno-ska, polka-banda, tribal drums. Whereas the last two albums possessed true understatement and restrain, this unplugged really brought IT in the instrumentation. These songs has taken a more worldly outlook than her usual intimate, relationship-based songs. For all the haters out there, while i am a big fan of aqui and bueninvento, i'm so happy she went pop, because i don't know what i'd do without her.

Ilusion, julieta's best ballad perhaps, is the mourning of the loss of ilusions through life. Julieta's voice is always in command, and it showcases versatility. I loved the post-modern pop sounds of Si and simple (neo)folkish ways of limon y Sal. In the world of pop, It's definitely inventive(the use of tuba, musical saw, vibraphone, string, banjo), but always precise and never indulgent, so the results always come off comforting and never forced.

I saw her twice here in NY in 2008 during her "El Presente" tour: in Central Park & at the Nokia Theater. But her retreads of her previous hits, (with the single exception of her new version of "limon y sal") were disappointing.

Her original accordion driven version of "de mis pasos" on her first disc, AQUI is already scalding hot and a totally awsome show stopper. In particular, the duet with Juan Son of "de mis pasos" was, for me, a total let-down.

First, I love Julieta, and everything she's done up to now. From this MTV disc must be added to her list of hits several new ones: "El Presente", "Mira la vida", "Ilusion" (with Marisa Monte) and "Algun dia" (with Gustavo Santaolalla).

Why try to make the best better. She is a beautiful woman with great musical talent who has given us many unforgetable songs.

And anyone who loves Julieta will want to have this disc - and the DVD also.

I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone, even if you don't understand spanish. It is a very fun album and I can't help but singing along while I listen. Julieta Venegas is a very talented musician and did an incredible job with this album. She uses guest performers (Marisa Monte, La Mala Rodriguez, etc)., different instruments (an orchestra), tempo changes and slightly variant melodies to re-create her songs in a way that makes you happy to own a second recording.

congratulations THE CD IN NICE VERY GOOD PRICE & SERVICE IM VERY HAPPY W/ AMAZON, AND I FORGET THE DELIVERY WAS SUPER FAST.

First, let me say that the disc I bought in Mexico also came with a DVD of the concert. Her music is stunning. Her band members are all very entertaining on stage. This is the first I've ever heard of Julieta Venegas.

Just splendid. She also has several guest artists who sing along with her and some of whom play instruments. Many of the musicians on this album play several instruments and they play an incredible variety of them on this disc. The songs on this album are fun, beautiful, and emotional. Don't worry--they don't take anything away from Julieta.Don't think twice. I can't say enough about it. It's very professionally produced and a pleasure to watch.

Julieta sounds wonderful and her backup singers have some of the most gorgeous and perfectly-blending voices I've ever heard. Just buy this album. Too bad the one from Amazon doesn't come with the DVD (the specs on the main page here says it comes with just 1 disc). Now, on to the music. I am absolutely in love.
